Good Eating and Heart

When paying attention to Group 1 presentation it showed me that nutrition is a very important part of life. Being into the gym culture people do say “Abs are made in the kitchen” and after listening to this presentation it makes sense. Your body goes off based on what you feed it. If you feed out trash your body won't be able to perform at its full potential. You also want to feed it good food because of gut health and your heart.

In the national perspective as a  country try to promote healthy eating habits by promoting diets and other healthy alternatives. We use public health campaigns and school meal programs for our students. In the local perspective, we have things such as farmer markets that sell healthy and organic food. As well as we have local restaurants that use organic products and have their own healthy menus as well. Other ways we promote healthy eating in a local perspective is cooking classes, nutrition workshops and wellness programs. Group 1 did an excellent job explaining the difference between these two and providing examples of both. Going back to the health consequences of not eating good, if you don’t have a decent diet every part of your body could be working in a deficient state. Poor nutrition can lead to hormone imbalances and also lead to depression, anxiety and other types of dementias.

We also have a bunch of agencies that help with these type of issues. So they help set up guidelines and nutrition help for everyone. Just like the agencies showed under:

Looking at this PowerPoint Group 1 did very well in adding and explaining not only the chapters but also inputting good information that helps people understand why they should have a well balanced diet. Showing also the consequences of not following a well-balanced diet. They also interviewed a personal trainer to ask her point of view on things. She goes on to state that not only nutrition is important but sleep and mind-body connection. She continues by stating that when she trains people she prioritizes mindfulness for a holistic fitness experience. She explains that visualization and stress-relieving exercises enhance mental well-being. This helps her clients not only leave physically stronger but also mentally rejuvenated. She also goes to explain how sleep and rest is needed to be able to achieve progress. This helps you body rebuild the broken down muscle as well as decrease the chances of injury since your muscles will be well rested. Sleep also has many other benefits a part from muscle recovery. It helps immune function, enhances cognitive function and your mood.

After this they interviewed a cardiologist. He goes on to say that dieting is insanely crucial and probably the most significant role when it comes to maintaining a healthy heart. A lot of people deal with diabetes and blood pressure because the foods they ingest have a ton of trans fats. These are the worst fats you can eat when it comes to nutrition. They have no health benefits and are insanely bad for your health. They are the worst fats known. But we also have good fats. That actually better your health and encourage a healthier lifestyle. Once example of this is omega 3 fats. They reduce heart risk and help with cholesterol levels.

Healthy eating isn’t some secret that was found recently. Old civilizations believed that certain foods can improve your cognitive function and speech. In the 19th and 20th century Louis Pasteur and Antoine Lavoisier made discoveries about the role of nutrients in the body, further shaping our understanding of good eating. In the united states we have a different view of eating compared to other countries. Here we eat more processed foods and fast food compared to other countries which is why we have a bigger population of obese people. In other countries they use more fresh and local foods compared to processed foods. This helps their digestion system be better and promote healthier lifestyles. I can vouch for this statement because I also went through this. I was born in Venezuela and lived there until I was around 7 years old. Whenever I would eat over there I would eat 10x the amount of food I eat here and I was a skinny kid with great immune system. When I got to the states I continued to eat the same way and saw I not only gained immense amount of weight but I also my immune system wasn’t the best. After getting tired of seeing how I was I decided to start eating healthier and watching what I consume and I have never been better. I lost all the weight I had gained but my immune system is at its peak. I never get sick. I never fill ill and in the rare occasions I due I’m fine by 3 days.

Group 1 also talks about the perception of self and others. They talk about how sometimes the eating habits of a person is due to how they grew up or what they usually have around them. Which is true. Sometimes I bring my own food to work to watch what I eat. But when all my coworkers start deciding in eating out I also want to go with them. Leaving my food for the next day and eating the least healthiest choice. So sometimes you have to see what is the reason behind you bad eating habits and try to change it as much as you can.

In conclusion, Group 1 did an excellent job covering their chapter and adding interviews to further support their statement. Everything followed a good chronological order and the use of photos and bullet points made it very easy to understand and follow along. This presentation could definitely be used to help people understand the benefits on healthy eating and the consequences of bad eating. Whoever paid attention in class to this presentation definitely left with a different view of what they eat and even if they didn’t they probably picked up a thing or two that will stick with them.
